Edgware CC announce tour of Kent
Edgware Cricket Club will embark on the first tour in their short history this September when the North London club travels south to Kent. Kent, affectionately known as the 'Garden of England', is not only a county famed for it's beer but also for it's cricket, with plenty of picturesque grounds scattered between South London and the coast.
The 14-man squad for the tour will be announced in May, and selection for the squad will be dependent on two factors.
The first and most important being Banter. "I will have the banter-meter out this summer and will judge things such as 'jokes', 'hilarious attire' and 'well thought out sledges', If we're going to tour this great land for two days, the players must bring the lols." spoke captain, Ciaran Hosty at the local Cafe Nero in Edgware.
The second factor of course will be skill, the foreign pitches in Kent may present some unfamiliar challenges for players with lots of seam expected. "Kent as you may know is a fair distance from Edgware, these strange lands will take some acclimatising to the players, understanding the culture and the locals will be pivotal to success on the tour".
Edgware will play two games on the tour which departs on Friday 7th September;
The first of which on Saturday 8th September, will be against Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club and will take place at the famous Nevill Ground, which up until recently was used as an out-ground for Kent County Cricket Club, and famously hosted a One Day International between India and Zimbabwe in 1983. The ground also has a permanent capacity of 6,000 seats, enough space for any eager Edgwarians to come and support their team.
The second game in the tour, will take place against Harbledown Cricket Club on Sunday 9th September in Canterbury, Kent. This small village team is famed for it's lovely quiet ground, great hospitality and fantastic beers, also it's about a 5 minutes walk from where the skipper has his accommodation (priorities).
