Veerapen sacked by Edgware in local scandal
Dean Veerapen has today been sacked by Edgware Cricket Club following a scathing attack on the Edgware hierarchy and personal attacks on fellow players.
The medium pacer who is affectionately known as ‘The Driver aka Nightrider aka From Mauritius with Love’ has found it increasingly difficult to meet expectations following his initial call up to the Mauritian national team last year. In a series of leaked texts captured by the Edgware Times, Veerapen was quoted as saying to numerous un-named players “I will leave to Belmont unless you give me a pay rise”, “f*ck you all”, “I should be opening the batting” and “I’m not valued at this club”. However, the final straw appears to have been the insult of captain Ciaran Hosty’s sacred Kookaburra cricket bat which Veerapen claimed was “a shit bat”.
Following the departure of Veerapen, who’s contract was due to expire in September of this year, the Executive Committee have released the following statement, “The relationship between the club and the player has soured over time and there has been a major breakdown of trust. We wish Dean well on his future endeavours and hope he finds the peace he is searching for”. When asked whether the club would re-sign Dean in the future, the club said “If we see a willingness from the player to accept his mistakes and move forward, of course we would love to have Dean back with us”.
