Deep Shah announces retirement from club cricket
Deep Shah announced at the Edgware CC AGM that he would be retiring from club cricket ahead of the 2024 season. Deep's departure is a big loss for the boys in blue who have benefitted from the right armers medium pacers since his debut in 2015. "It's a big loss for Edgware. Deep has provided countless match winning performances over his 9 season stint at the club and is a favourite amongst the players for his commitment, humble attitude and dedication to the club both on and off the field. He will be missed greatly", spoke Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty.
Deep joined Edgware in September 2015 and made his debut against Monken Hadley in a game famed for Raj Parmar's debut spell of 4/9. In 39 matches for Edgware, Deep claimed an impressive 33 wickets at an average of 25.39 including a personal best of 3/31 against Mill Hill Village Dev XI in 2020. Rated highly by the club, Shah went on to lead Edgware's 2nd XI against Bessborough this season and will retire as one of only two players to boast a 100% captaincy record (Dharmish Bhatt, the only other player).
"Deeps stature is what seperated him from his peers and he bowled a nagging line and length with inconsistent bounce that made him a nightmare for batsmen. He was also a handy fielder who wasn't shy in unleashing spectacular one handed grabs on ocassion, his one hander against Northwood Town in 2022 springs to mind as well as his one hander against Cockfosters back in 2019 off the bowling of Nakul Jilka" spoke club statistician Rick Titball.
A replacement for Deep will be hard to come by and Edgware hope he remains present within the club at least in some capacity.
