Edgware announce cricket week to commemorate 10-year anniversary
Whilst the official fixture list has yet to be released, Edgware Cricket Club have announced that the club will be hosting a special 'Cricket Week' in early July to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the club.
On 5 July 2015, the first ever Edgware Cricket Club side took to the pitch against Watford Town for a friendly. There were certainly more unknowns than knowns that day, as Edgware secured a quite breathtaking 2-wicket win that went down to the last over and was secured by a six by future hall-of-famer Sajith Sriwickramasekaran.
Remarkably, the club is now approaching 10 years since the debut match with 198 matches recorded on paper and virtual scorecards and a list of over 100 names to have graced the pitch in Edgware blue colours.
"It's hard to imagine a time where Edgware Cricket Club didn't exist and that's a testament to the commitment of over 100 people who have made this club what it is today. Unfortunately, I've been around long enough to remember the less than glamorous days in 2015, 2016 and 2017 where the club was scratching around for players, hosting sides on a pitch beside a burnt out pavilion, but ultimately setting the foundations for what would end up being a period of significant success, initially in Sunday Cricket and now in Saturday League Cricket. To maintain anything for 10 years is an achievement, but for the club to not only be competing, but growing after 10 years is incredible and therefore we wanted to mark the occassion with a special cricket week to celebrate our previous successes and history" spoke Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty.
The Cricket Week is set to kick off on Thursday 3 July where a social T20 XI will take on Watford Town at Woodside. The club is expected to reach out to a number of former players for the game that will likely see shared captaincy between Jaimin Patel and Jeet Swaminarayan (subject to availability). After a break on Friday, the Cricket Week will then continue on Saturday and Sunday as the club takes on Flamstead and Harrow St Marys in the Herts Saturday Cricket League (Div 9W) and Chess Valley League (Div 4) respectively. As per Thursday, Club Legends will be invited to attend the Flamstead game and enjoy a drink or two to celebrate the 10-year anniversary (to the day!).
