Edgware CC ready to step in for the Ashes if England pull out

Edgware Cricket Club are in talks with Cricket Australia around replacing England for the upcoming Ashes tour, should England decide against touring due to COVID-19 measures.

In a leaked email received by this reporter, it appears as though Edgware Cricket Club are happy to accept the quarantine restrictions suggested by Cricket Australia in exchange for free beer, paid accommodation at a 3-star and above hotel, paid time off work for a 13-man squad and a restriction on overs (9 max) a day for Australia's fearsome trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc.

When asked for comment, CEO Ciaran Hosty said "Look, I don't think anyone begrudges the England team for their concerns over the quarantine restrictions proposed, it's tough being a cricketer. We get abused every weekend by the opposition, net hard during the week, pay extortionate match fees and fight off aggressors in petrol stations, only to get a first ball duck against a 14-year old who's only playing so his dad doesn't have to go shopping with the Mrs. Having said that, any opportunity to get some sunshine, a few beers and get bowled at the SCG in 35 degree heat, sounds worth a 14-day quarantine to me. We hope Cricket Australia takes our proposal seriously".

Should Edgware get the unexpected nod from Cricket Australia, they will be the first amateur side to tour Australia since 1963 and perhaps the worst since 2006/07.
