Edgware continue their 100% winning record in Saturday Cricket to top table

Edgware Cricket Club secured back to back Saturday wins as they overcame a resilient Mill Hill Village at the Dharmish Bhatt Oval (Watford Town Cricket Club).

Mill Hill Village were able to miraculously string together an XI after having just 5 players available at 11am on Thursday, but looked good value against an Edgware side who have yet to be truly tested in Saturday league cricket thus far this season.

Opting to bat, Edgware consistently built partnerships throughout and reached 170/4 courtesy of a brilliant 78 from Vidanda Galgamuwa and a hard hitting 35 from Sagar Raghvani. Despite the brilliant start, Edgware lost their last 6 wickets for just 3 runs and finished on a disappointing 173 all out off 34.2 overs. It was just the opening Mill Hill Village were after and after losing Sanchit Sara for 3 lbw to Sajith Sriwickramasekaran, the away side moved serenely to 110-1 despite some interesting umpiring along the way. When opener Usman Humayan eventually fell for 51, it was the turning point Edgware needed and they went on to take 8 wickets for just 42 runs which included a brilliant 4/27 from Ash Balkaran on his bowling debut and two late wickets from Dean Veerapen who ended on 2/22 off his 7 overs. A tight 18 run victory means Edgware top the Division 11E table after 3 games and remain unbeaten so far in 2023.

Sunday 1st XI v Ickenham - Chess Valley League (Div 4)

Jas Mandla had a debut to remember with a wicket and 11 runs batting at 7

On Sunday, Edgware travelled to Ickenham to take on their fellow relegation rivals from the 2022 season. Edgware won the toss and elected to bowl on what looked a decent cricket wicket with rewards for both bat and ball. Ickenham started very strongly as Edgware struggled with their lengths and the home side moved to 101-0. The hosts then lost 4 for 13 as Jaimin Patel and Ananya Dixit worked in partnership to remove both openers who had looked threatening. The hard-hitting Vrushant Patel was in an aggressive mood and swiftly moved to 46 before Vidanda Galgamuwa had him stumped and the leg-spinner would end his spell with 3/39 as Edgware bowled Ickenham out for 228 off 44 overs.

Edgware took a reserved but effective approach in chase of Ickenham's 228 as Ciaran Hosty and Nakul Jilka put on 77 for the first wicket. However, besides Nakul Jilka who registered a 24th club fifty, Edgware struggled for rhythm and lost wickets in regular clumps and slumped to 131-6. However, Jaimin Patel and Jas Mandla led a rear guard effort that put Edgware within touching distance of victory before the former fell for 36. Jeet Swaminarayan and Ananya Dixit took the game to the final over, but ultimately the 19 required would be a step too far for Edgware who fell 13 runs short.

Edgware will take a lot of confidence from two brilliant games of cricket and will look forward to the double game week next week.
