Edgware Cricket Club in line for Qatari takeover worth £300m
News from Edgware Cricket Club HQ has emerged this morning that the club is in line for a £300m Qatari takeover ahead of the 2023 season. Whilst details are sketchy for the most part it is believed that a un-named Sheikh has put in a bid of around £300m to strengthen the squad ahead of their Chess Valley League Division 4 campaign and build a brand new 10,000 capacity cricket stadium in the outskirts of Edgware.
Squad Strengthening
Sources close to the club have revealed that Quinton De Kock, the South African wicket-keeper who retired from Test cricket in 2021, will be the first major signing by Edgware Cricket Club following the takeover. Quinton had been navigating the T20 circuit over the past 18 months and is believed to have been interested in a club stint post the IPL. De Kock has played more than 250 matches for South Africa over his 10 year international career to date.
"Look it's terrific news for the club to have the quality of Quinton in the fourth division of the Chess Valley Cricket League and within the 11th division of the Hertfordshire Saturday Cricket League. No doubt he'll be handy behind the stumps and will probably be able to contribute a decent amount of runs with the bat. He'll also be able to pass on his experience to the younger guys in the team and he'll be a wonderful ambassador for the club." spoke Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty.
New Stadium
The club is also in talks to build a brand new 10,000 seater stadium in Edgwarebury Park which will include a state of the art pavilion, three tiered stands and a centre of excellence (including indoor nets). Most importantly, the constructions costs will be covered by the Qatari takeover and as a result match fees and subs will remain constant for the 2023 season.
The latest stadium designs have been released by Barnet Council above.
Further news is anticipated soon but given today is the 1st April, this could all of course be nonsense.
