Edgware make it seven in a row as promotion race heats up
Edgware completed their 7th win in a row in Saturday League Cricket this season after a comprehensive victory against Holtwhites Trinibis in Enfield.
Electing to bat, openers Nakul Jilka and Jeet Swaminarayan looked composed and authoritative as Edgware made 80 for the first wicket. Jeet Swaminarayan fell for 31 off 38 deliveries as he was caught off the bowling of Michael Jones. Vidanda Galgamuwa continued his good form this season reaching 21 off 30 balls before he then fell to spinner Rayhan Qadir. In the meantime, Nakul Jilka was moving through the gears and showing glimpses of his best as he reached his 2nd fifty of the season by hitting Rayhan Qadir for a one bounce four.
Edgware were in cruise control at 136-2 when a flurry of wickets meant they lost 7 wickets for just 45 runs. Ash Balkaran was left stranded on 20 not out off 29 balls as Dean Veerapen fell victim to the spin of Arjun Popat who finished with figures of 5-29.
With the ball in hand, Edgware were electric. Dean Veerapen looked threatening early on and despite going for 4 in his first delivery, followed it up by dismissing both the opener Paul Nelson and number three, Satwik Kansal in consecutive deliveries to leave Holtwhites Trinibis 7-2. Arjun Popat and Chris Frade provided some resistance for the third wicket but when Jaimin Patel removed Chris Frade for 23, the collapse was on. Holtwhites Trinibis fell to 60-6 as Jaimin Patel collected three wickets in a middle passage that saw Edgware in complete control. Some later order hitting followed from Joe Micallef (25) and Rayhan Qadir (16), but it wasn't enough as Luke Molloy, Tushyam Sonecha and Ash Balkaran finished off the lower order to complete a 51-run win for the boys in blue.
The win sees Edgware maintain top spot in Division 11E with three matches to go. The Saturday XI also remain unbeaten this year and have not lost a competitive Saturday game since 30th July 2022. The last three matches of the season see Edgware play bottom place Southgate Adelaide at home and Old Minchendenians 2s and 3s.
