Edgware opt for fresh blood ahead of Malta Tour

Edgware Cricket Club will offer debuts to Nathan Gray and Nirav Varsani ahead of the upcoming tour to Malta which is set to kick off on Thursday 7th October. It will be the first time Edgware have toured overseas since March 2019, when they drew a 2-match series 1-1 against Costa Del Sol Crusaders and Malaga CC.

Edgware skipper Sajith Sriwickramasekaran, speaking at a local Taco Bell restaurant, was quoted as saying 'It's going to be a tough tour physically and mentally. We are expecting some warm weather with bouncy astroturf wickets and of course the alcohol will pose challenges for the boys. Despite this, we are confident of getting a result out here and closing out an otherwise successful 2021 season".

The first batch of Edgware players will arrive on Tuesday 5th October to acclimatise as well as sampling the local produce, with the captain himself expected on Wednesday. Opening batsman Ciaran Hosty is likely to miss the warmup T20 on Thursday with a gluteus-maximus strain, but club physio Nabeel Shahid expects him to be fit for the first match of the 2-match series on Saturday.
