Galgamuwa eyes tour win as Edgware prepare for first overseas trip since 2021
As Edgware set off for their first international tour since 2021, Stephen Poopenshaft (SP) sat down with Edgware captain Vidanda Galgamuwa (VG) to discuss the tour and his expectations for the boys in blue.
SP: How excited are you to lead the Edgware boys on their first overseas tour since 2021? And most importantly, do you think Edgware can claim a tour win?
VG: I am truly honoured to lead the boys in our first international tour since 2021. It’s been a long time coming and you can really see the excitement of the boys, I just hope we come away with a win and we can do both our legendary captains Saj and Naks proud. Their leadership will be sorely missed but I know I can count on the boys to deliver. Menorca won’t know what’s hit them, both and and off the field.
SP: Pavel Florin is set to become the 102nd player to represent Edgware and the second former international behind Morris Ouma. What's your view on his addition to the squad?
VG: Pavel’s addition to the team is a very welcome one and having an international player playing for us really shows the quality and depth of our team. I am very excited to show Pavel the Edgware way of playing cricket and by the sounds of it Pavel will fit right in with the boys. We are also keen to learn a lot from Pavel as he is a truly experienced international who’s been in the mix with some great cricketers.
SP: Lastly, beyond the cricket. What are you most looking forward to off the field and travelling around Menorca?
VG: I do think tours like these are an opportunity to not only play cricket but form deeper connections with your teammates. I am excited to experience the food, drinks and weather menorca has to offer with a great set of lads! And of course how can I forget I am truly excited to experience the guest DJs. I also have to give a big shout out to the club that’s hosting us, they really are pulling out all the stops for us and we are very grateful.

In three overseas matches thus far (two in Malaga and one in Malta), Edgware have won 2. It's an impressive record and one they'll look to build on in Menorca. The weather in Menorca is set fair with a high of 20-22 degrees and we hope the beautiful surrounding in Mahon provide some memorable moments for the boys.
