Jude Saverus announces retirement from club cricket
Jude Saverus has retired from all forms of cricket with immediate effect to bring to close a wonderful eight-year club career. Jude was one of Edgware's originals and formed part of the successful 'golden generation' which raised themselves from humble beginnings to win back to back promotions in the Chess Valley League, as well as compete in the club's first ever overseas tour in Malaga, Spain.
Jude will be best remembered for his on and off-field banter which was adored by player's and opposition a-like and his numerous comic shirt names ranging from 'Daffy 0', 'Parker 3.14' and 'Romesh 3.14' in light of Jude's uncanny resemblance to Romesh Ranganathan. However, putting his comedy aside, there was nothing funny about his cricketing talent. A hall of fame bowler in his groove, an expert and athletic fielder and of course a tenacious batsman, Jude had it all. He will no doubt be best remembered for his 5-34 against Cockfosters to turn the tide on Edgware's season and inspire a promotion push as well as his match defining 80 metre six (yes, we checked) at North London CC to set up Dharmish's match winning cover drive in 2019.
"There's not enough words to describe Jude's influence on the club and the appreciation we have for his dedication over the past 8 years is unparalleled. We'd simply not be where we are today without him. When we were scrambling around for players in 2015, Jude answered the call as it were and we haven't looked back since. He'll be missed massively on the field and it really brings end to an era that we all hoped would never end. We wish him all the best in the second chapter" spoke club chairman Ciaran Hosty at club HQ.
Jude ends his Edgware career on 71 matches, with 477 runs, 50 wickets and 20 catches. What a champion!
