Promotion out of Edgware's hands as last two fixtures are must wins!

Edgware will go into the final two fixtures of the 2024 Hertfordshire Saturday League Season knowing their chances of promotion sit firmly outside of their own hands. A tough loss to promotion rivals Old Eastcotians a few weeks ago consigned Edgware to second place in the league table and means they will need to win their final two fixtures to stand any chance of promotion.

The Race for Promotion

The pecularities of the promotion and relegation format this season means that only the top place side is guaranteed promotion. As far as second place goes, Edgware would need to finish with the highest average point count of all 2nd place sides across the five regional dvisions to secure their promotion spot. As of Monday 26th August, Edgware are competing with four other teams for the best 2nd place finish and currently sit behind Chorleywood Cricket Club in Division 10 West.

Edgware's final two fixtures see them take on Royal Herts at Home (3rd), who remain in the hunt for 2nd place, as well as Batchworth - Away (4th). Edgware narrowly beat Royal Herts earlier in the summer, whilst the reverse fixture with Batchworth was abandoned due to rain. Chorleywood by comparison will need to beat Berkhamstead (6th) and Lutonian (3rd) in their division to rule Edgware out of promotion.

"It's a big couple of weeks for the club. We did really well to get back-to-back promotions in 2022 and 2023 but we knew this year would be tougher with three other First XI's in the division. It's important we maintain the momentum and keep progressing up the ladder and hopefully we're able to get the job done over the next couple of weeks." spoke Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty.
