It's been a saga that has ebbed and flowed all summer long, will Shuraj Vekaria pay his fines for the 2020 season?

The debate has had considerable support for either side of the argument, with pro and anti-fine marches a permanent feature amongst the Edgware streets this summer. However, in a rather shocking turn of events it appears as though Shuraj Vekaria has finally agreed to pay his fines for the 2020 season according to a source close the club.

Edgware's first choice wicket-keeper posted a statement on social media this morning before hastily removing it, a card often played by elite sportsmen to ensure their side of the story is heard. The statement reads as follows:

"I had recently read that Maradona could have signed for Sheffield United in the summer of 1978. Unfortunately, this filled my head with dreams of a move to the IPL. My delusions were advanced further by my agent Dharmish Bhatt who advised me that I had what it takes to be a test cricketer for India.

With this in mind, myself and Dharmish negotiated aggressively with the Edgware hierarchy to give me a lucrative 5-year contract which would see me become the highest paid player at club. I used the unpaid fines as bargaining power and threatened the club with non-payment should my financial demands not be met.

Unfortunately, the club has called my bluff and after a move to the IPL did not materialise and I did not receive any offers from other Sunday cricket outfits, I have reluctantly decided to pay my fines for the 2020 season. I have also subsequently sacked my agent and I would like to formally apologise to my team mates and the Edgware CC fans for dragging them through the mud with what can only be described as shenanigans. Thanks, SV x"

The incident follows the high profile sacking of Dean Veerapen earlier in the season who also threatened the board with a move to Belmont & Edgware should a more lucrative contract not be offered. In response to both incidents, a spokesperson from the Edgware CC board has said "We do not negotiate with terrorists".

Can 2020 get any more crazier? - We certainly hope not.
