Veerapen on his way to France?

The never ending rollercoaster of mystery that is Dean Veerapen is once again working it's wintery magic as the Edgware medium pacer has been linked to French club Le Poos CC, just a handful of kilometres outside of Paris. Dean declined to comment when asked about the potential move this afternoon but Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty did acknowledge that a sizeable bid for the Mauritian had been placed.

"I can confirm that a bid has come in for Dean and in all honesty, the club could do with the cash to purchase some new cricket balls and equipment for the new season. That being said, Dean is of course an integral part of our squad and following the departures we've had over the last few months, we're very keen on keeping the squad together. If I were Le Poos CC, I'd be expecting a significantly higher offer it they want to get their man." spoke Club Chairman Ciaran Hosty in Edgware.

The recent transfer gossip is merely a drop in the ocean for Dean Veerapen who has had more than his fair share of controversy during his 6 year stint at Edgware. Many will remembers his leaked texts in 2021 where he was shown to be negotiating new contracts with rivals Belmont & Edgware as well as slating several batsmen within his own team. Then in August 2023, Dean was dropped from the match day squad in Edgware's must-win title defining fixture against Old Minchendenians after he said he was too much of a star player to even waste his time completing availability forms. The aftermath of the event meant that Dean was forced to train with the U11s before being reintegrated in the club.

Speaking on Dean's previous controversy Ciaran Hosty said "Look, I think everyone can see Dean is the diva within our team. But the bloke can bowl. We don't know how and to be honest the maths of it doesn't really compute. But he gets wickets. As far as I'm concerned if he continues to train with the lads and turn up each week, he can ask for whatever salary he wants as long as its under 25p a week.".

Edgware Cricket Club's Chief Correspondent Stephen Poopenshaft will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and you can follow Edgware CC's blogs for all of the latest news and results!
